Newly single, so many possibilities!

Newly single, so many possibilities!
Spread the love

Good friends of DesignMyRoom, I recently bought a home for myself after the demise of a 15 year marriage. I am overwhelmed by options of what to do with the first floor, which is simply a living room and a kitchen. The living room, I have no idea. I am not going to put a TV in there. I will be bringing over lots of books.

The kitchen, I would like to have a table that can seat 4-6 people, peninsula-style, as opposed to installing an island. I would like to connect all the empty space surrounding the range with usable counter tops. Concrete? Butcher block? I don't like the white cabinets, and also placed rather high, so I intend to remove them.

I'm in North America, and prefer modern farmhouse, craftsman, and/or midcentry design concepts. Anything helps. I'm starting from pretty much nothing, as you can see. Budget is librarian salary, so nothing extravagant, but I would very much prefer to keep Ikea of out it.
I thank you for any and all advice!
